The Hidden Lives of Plants: Botanical Illustrations from the V&A

22 June - 10 November 2024

An exploration of the V&A's collection of botanical art spanning 400 years.

Marvel at exquisite botanical illustrations from the renowned Victoria and Albert Museum in London, alongside historic printed herbals from the University of Birmingham's extensive collections, spanning more than four centuries of botanical artistry. The intricate depictions of flowers and fruits not only radiate inherent beauty but also embody the fascinating harmony between art and science encapsulated within a single image.

Since its inception in 1856, the V&A has diligently collected botanical illustrations in diverse graphic mediums, ranging from the 15th century onwards. This collaborative exhibition, curated by international Art History and Curating MA students, illuminates the rich history and multifaceted significance of botanical imagery.
