Explore a modernist architectural style that emerged in the late 40s and its relevance amid climate change
Debuting at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale, Tropical Modernism – curated by architects Jane Drew and Maxwell Fry – is now in London until September 2024. Focused largely on this architectural style whose colonial roots lie in British West Africa, the showcase explores Tropical Modernism's evolution in post-colonial Ghana and India through drawings, photos, and archives, highlighting its significant role in symbolising independence.
The exhibition also poses a pertinent question for our era of climate change: Can Tropical Modernism offer guidance for the future? This thought-provoking display encourages contemplation on the enduring relevance of architectural styles in addressing contemporary challenges.
