Celebrate the life of a trailblazing 18th-century woman painter.
Angelica Kauffman, a founding member of the Royal Academy, is one of the most acclaimed European artists of the late 18th century. The exhibition will follow Kauffman’s trajectory from child prodigy to one of Britain’s most sought-after painters, as well as her later career in Rome where her studio became a hub for the city’s cultural life.
The exhibition will feature some of her finest self-portraits, her ceiling paintings for the Royal Academy’s first home in Somerset House as well as her celebrated history paintings of subjects, from Circe to Cleopatra.
