Zadie Xa: House of Gods, Animal Guides and Five Ways 2 Forgiveness
Enter the playful and immersive world of artist Zadie Xa, whose hanging sculptures and fabric creations turn the Whitechapel Gallery into a colourful dreamscape.
This specially commissioned immersive installation is by multimedia artist Zadie Xa. Evoking the sense of a house or home, hanging sculptures, ‘tricksters’ and ’shapeshifters are suspended amongst large-scale fabric works.
Zadie Xa is often inspired by her own background, and this installation demonstrates her ongoing engagement with hybrid and diasporic identities, global history, folklore, and rituals. She strives to amplify narratives that have been erased or repressed by the Western world, using masquerade, play, costume and storytelling to investigate social and political themes.
