Cogs and Gears: LEGO® brick machines and mechanics

8 April 2026
10.30am-12.30pm, and 1.30-3.30pm
£5.5

Design and build a functioning LEGO® brick machine under the guidance of the experts from Brick Ideas.

Sometimes we think of machines as super high-tech robots and spaceships, but machines have been around for hundreds of years. From the ancient Greek Antikythera mechanism, to Leonardo da Vinci’s famous flying machine, to steam trains and even your bike or family car, machines are everywhere.

But, despite advances in technology, most machines still rely on simple cogs and gears.

Be inspired by RAMM’s ‘WOW! Amazing science in children’s books’ exhibition then get building your very own mechanical creation using gears, cogs and imagination.

This is a 2 hour long workshop for children aged 6-12 – please arrive in time for the start of your session – 10.30am or 1.30pm

All groups of children must be accompanied by a paying adult who is willing to get stuck in alongside their little LEGO mechanics. Please keep as many spaces as possible available for children by limiting the numbers of accompanying adults per group.

Run by Julian from Brickideas.

Our LEGO brick activities are always popular so book early to avoid disappointment.
