Welcome to The Armitt museum's first ever Fungi Fest!
In it's first year of creation, The Armitt is pleased to be hosting a day all about fungi! Inspired by the artworks of Beatrix Potter, held in the museum's collection, and the amazing things we now know about these small but mighty organisms, we'll have different activities for all the family to get involved in.
See our schedule of activities below that require booking in advance (note all tickets include entry into the museum):
10am-12pm - A hunt for fungi - join local mycologists to search for fungi growing around Ambleside (suitable for adults and children)
2pm-2:45pm and 2:45pm-3:30pm - Flora, Fauna, Fun-ga - come and listen to real-life mushrooms whilst learning about the fungal world with Mycelium Thinking CIC. Add what you've learnt to group sound experiments inspired by Flora, Fauna, and FUNGA (suitable for children aged 4-11 and must be accompanied by an adult)
4pm-5pm - Fungi: Web of Life film screening - watch this recent documentary with Dr Merlin Sheldrake, as he explores some of the grandest and strangest organisms ever discovered, showcased through jaw-dropping time-lapse cinematography, in a landscape largely unchanged from the time of the dinosaurs (suitable for adults and children)
There will also be other trails and activities available throughout the day in the museum as part of normal entry.
