Chawton in Stitches After Hours

2 August 2024

Soak up the evening sun with a drink in the Walled Garden, followed by an after-hours guided tour of Chawton in Stitches.

Soak up the evening sun with a refreshing drink in our Walled Garden from 6-6.30pm, before joining a member of the Curatorial team for a tour of our Summer exhibition, Chawton in Stitches, showcasing the work of award-winning graduate of the Royal School of Needlework Emily Barnett, inspired by the Gardens and Collection at Chawton House.

The items on display take the visitor through Emily’s creative process, whilst also setting her work alongside artwork and advice – unique scrapbooks, conduct literature and samplers – produced over two centuries before. Taken together, these pieces paint a picture of the ways in which artistic endeavour, from needlework and knitting to watercolour, has provided occupation, solace, community and skill to women from the eighteenth century to today.

Tickets: £20 (includes a drink on arrival) | £8 for Annual Ticket & Neighbour Pass Holders
