1 July 2024
10:30am to 2:30pm

Join our Museum Expert for a full day workshop exploring the story of The Royal Laundry and Victorian Wash Day.

Join our Museum Expert for a full day workshop exploring the story of The Royal Laundry and Victorian Wash Day, and have a go at some Victorian inspired easy embroidery!

10:30am to 12noon - walking tour of the site of The Royal Laundry.

We will meet outside Richmond Station and follow the journey that the Queen's Washing would have taken once it arrived at Richmond, looking at clues that remain as well as historical documents as we explore. If the weather is too bad for the walking tour, we will bead to the Museum to explore Victorian Wash Day using objects from the Museum's handling collection.

12noon to 1pm - lunch break. You can take a picnic to Richmond Green, the Riverside, or treat yourselves to one of the many places to eat in Richmond.

1pm to 2:30pm - Victorian Monograms

In this easy embroidery workshop, we will look at how embroidery was used to keep track of items in the Royal Laundry and have a go at making our own easy cross stitch monograms, complete with crowns or other symbols important to each student.
