Develop your artist legal toolkit with DACS as they run through the fundamentals of what you need to know about intellectual property rights (IP), protecting your artwork, and advocating for yourself as an artist.

Learning how to protect your artwork and advocate for your rights as an artist can feel daunting – especially when you start diving into the nitty gritty bits of legislation that relate to your artist rights. So, we’ve brought in the experts from DACS to provide an overview of the basics and fundamentals you need to know.

After introducing their advocacy work and core services, DACS will examine some of the key intellectual property (IP) rights, with a focus on the basic, practical knowledge that artists will find helpful. They will speak about the Artist’s Resale Right, copyright, the language of contracts, moral rights, copyright exceptions, and the key things that DACS consider when licensing for artists.

They will outline key scenarios that you might find yourself in as an artist, before collectively working through how we might respond and how our rights impact these situations, so you can put your newly learned knowledge into practice. The session will end with a Q&A where you can put your burning questions to the DACS team
