Find out about the Battle of Nantwich, 1644.
The Battle of Nantwich in 1644 was a major victory of the Parliamentarians under Sir Thomas Fairfax and Sir William Brereton over a Royalist Army recently assembled by John Lord Byron. It restored the balance of power in favour of the Cheshire Parliamentary forces after an initial series of Royalist victories in December 1643 and early January 1644. The King lost an army that could have stood as a bulwark against the invading Scottish Army that was to support Parliament.
