Ceri Thompson was born in the Rhondda in 1953 to a mining family. I started work underground in 1970 at Cwm Colliery, near Pontypridd and worked as a coal face worker for 16 years. After being made redundant in 1986, I attended Coleg Harlech and then University of Wales, Cardiff.
Ceri has worked for Rhondda Heritage Park, Council of Museums in Wales, Glamorgan Records Office before becoming curator of Big Pit, National Coal Museum in 1999.
