Alyosha Stone leads this 2-day workshop, taking place on two Saturdays in July, offering a comprehensive introduction to the ancient skill of stone carving.
Participants will be taught chisel techniques, as well as the methods of carving in incised forms and in relief using a flat piece of soft bath stone or Portland limestone.
Participants may prepare a design beforehand to bring along on paper, or create it on the day, taking inspiration from the exhibition Signs of the Seaside.
Alyosha will lead participants through the process of carving their design, including the creation of simple letterforms on their stone. Each participant will be given a set of tools to use on the day and will also be provided with a piece of stone. Lunch will be provided on both days.
The more you see, the more we do.
The National Art Pass lets you enjoy free entry to hundreds of museums, galleries and historic places across the UK, while raising money to support them.
