A two-day reading marathon of Swallowdale by Arthur Ransome.
IfNotDuffers is coming to Windermere Jetty Museum for a two-day marathon reading of Swallowdale by Arthur Ransome, with the team that brought you Swallows and Amazons, Pigeon Post, The Picts and the Martyrs, and Winter Holiday.
Enthusiasts young and old will read a chapter each, and arrangements to book a slot to read a particular chapter will be available.
Visitors, Great Aunts, and pirates, with or without parrots, will be welcome both days, to come along and listen for as long as they like. The event is being staged at the Old Firestation at Windermere Jetty Museum.
The museum has an internationally recognised collection of historic boats connected to the area. You can see the two boats Swallow and Amazon used in the 2016 film adaptation of Arthur Ransome’s classic children’s novel Swallows and Amazons on display in the Boathouse. There is also Arthur Ransome’s sail dinghy, Coch-y Bonddhu, on display in the main gallery.
IfNotDuffers is a reading group which celebrates Arthur Ransome’s novels. Arthur Ransome was an English author and journalist, best known for his series of children’s books focused on the school holiday adventures of children.
This is a free event welcome to anyone wishing to participate or just to drop in and listen. The lakeshore cafe offers panoramic views of Windermere and is the perfect place to enjoy some refreshments.
This is fantastic opportunity to socialise with other fellow book enthusiasts and immerse yourself in the full Arthur Ransome experience.
