Stephen Deuchar on the difficulties facing UK museums

In the run-up to the General Election, our director spoke to the Financial Times' James Pickford about some of the challenges facing museums in the current financial climate.

As reported by James Pickford in the Financial Times, Stephen Deuchar said: 'Museums are ironically better than ever before, better presented, better run and in better condition. It’s just at the point where we ought to be reaping all the benefit from that investment that revenue funding is being cut back at a worrying pace.'

Deuchar commented that the loss of curatorial posts and a lack of curatorial funding could be damaging museums in the long-term; and that the Art Fund's New Collecting Awards for curators was set up in response to these financial difficulties.
