Save Van Dyck: Export-stop extended
We are thrilled to announce that our fundraising campaign with the National Portrait Gallery, to buy Van Dyck's final self-portrait for the nation, has been extended by five months.
Back in November, we launched a fundraising campaign to help the National Portrait Gallery acquire Van Dyck's magnificent final-self-portrait: a unique work of art that has hung in private collections for nearly 400 years.
The painting was recently purchased by an overseas buyer, but was placed under a three-month export-bar to give us the chance to raise funds, in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery. Today, we are thrilled to announce that the export-bar has been extended for a further five months by the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works Of Art – which gives us more time to raise the £12.5m required to keep the portrait in the UK, where it was painted shortly before the artist's death.
So far we have raised an incredible £3.2m for the campaign, but we’ve still got some way to go: text VANDYCK to 70800 to give £5, or donate online. Help us to spread the word by adding Van Dyck's gold-frame Twibbon to your Facebook or Twitter profile.
Also, join our Thunderclap on Twitter! Sign up below, and a campaign message will be sent from your account on Friday 7 March at 3pm.
