Love Your Museum Weekend starts tomorrow

In time for Love Your Museum Weekend, we've uploaded a new podcast onto the Art Fund Prize website.

Our reporter Bob Jones travelled to the People’s History Museum in Manchester, where judges Kathy Gee, Charlotte Higgins and Lola Young paid were greeted by museum director Katy Archer and other staff.

In the podcast, museum director Katy Archer talks about the museum’s renovation project, whilst Lola Young, Baroness Young of Hornsey, gives an insight into the ‘life of an Art Fund Prize judge’. You can download the podcast from the Art Fund Prize home page. It's also available on iTunes.

The judges’ visit to the People’s History Museum was the last in ten group visits to the long listed museums and galleries. Soon they will get together to draw up a short list of four museums and galleries. The short list will be announced live on Front Row on 19 May by Chair of the Judges Michael Portillo.

But it isn’t too late to have your say on who should win. You have until 5pm on 3 May to vote for your favourite long listed institution. Don’t miss your chance to vote and comment - the judges take the public Poll into consideration when selecting the short list. And by leaving a comment you can also entre a draw to win an iPad. Vote here.

Over the course of Love Your Museum Weekend, plenty of free activities are being planned at nine of the long listed museums and galleries.

Don’t forget to take part in our Twitter competition, either. On Saturday 30 April, tell us why you love museums using the hash tag #ilovemuseums. In doing so you can enter a draw to win a free National Art Pass, giving a year’s free entry to over 200 charging museums and galleries and 50% off entry to major exhibitions across the UK. Tweets must be entered between 10am and 1pm on Saturday 30 April. IF you’re not yet following us on Twitter, just visit
