Wednesday 28 July

Art Fund members are guided through highlights from the contemporary art collection of international lawyers Simmons & Simmons by Stuart Evans, recently retired partner of the firm.

He began assembling the collection 20 years ago. The policy was to support young artists at the beginning of their careers by acquiring significant pieces of their work.

We are privileged that Stuart Evans has offered to give members a personal talk about the history of the collection, followed by a tour of the art show in the City Point offices.

Visit: Spencer House

Sunday 12 September

Completed in 1766 for John 1st Earl Spencer (an ancestor of Diana, Princess of Wales), Spencer House is the only great 18th-century private palace in London to survive intact.

Visitors can enjoy a privately led tour of the splendid rooms, which have been returned to their original late 18th-century appearance.

A team of experts were brought together for a unique and extremely ambitious 10-year restoration programme that began in 1987. The renovation of the house has prompted the return of key pieces of furniture to their original locations.

Booking information: please call 0844 415 4151
Time: 10.15am, 10.30am, 2.45pm, 4.30pm and Monday 27 September, 11am (please specify date and time when booking).

Talk: Dreamtime to Machine Time: Aboriginal Art by Rebecca Hossack

© the artist

Tuesday 21 September

Rebecca Hossack traces the story of Aboriginal art from Dreamtime - the creation of the Aboriginal universe - to its recent renaisance in the contemporary art world.

With paintings from different geographical areas, Rebecca reveals the meaning of symbols, and talks about the Aboriginal people's deep reverence for the land.

The lecture demonstrates that Aboriginal  paintings  are not just magnificent works of art expressing the artists' pride in their remarkable culture: they have been used in Australian courts of law as documents to prove ownership of areas of land larger than England.

Booking information: please call 0844 415 4151
Time: 6.30 - 8pm
Tickets: £15 (includes wine and nibbles)
