Talk: Pompeii - In the Light of Recent Excavations

Art Fund Event  |  Wallace Collection  |  Thursday, 7 October 2010

Free to all  |  Full venue & entry details

Pompeii was destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79.  Excavations since the 18th century have revealed the city as it was in its heyday, allowing the modern visitor a wonderful opportunity to look at ancient Helllenistic and Roman culture in situ.

The public and private buildings, with their statues, wall-paintings and mosaics, provide material information on ancient theatre, town planning, interior decoration, local politics, gender and slavery.

Booking information: please call 0844 415 4151, Monday to Friday 9am - 5.30 pm. Lines open 13 September.
