The core of the brooch consists of an equal-armed cross with a circular setting for a gem at its centre. The brooch has suffered severe mechanical damage, probably the result of damage by modern agricultural machinery. The brooch is a rare example of a piece of prestige early medieval German jewellery occurring in an English context.
