Walker is a complex and prolific American artist who has gained national and international recognition for her room-size tableaux depicting historical narratives haunted by sexuality, violence, and subjugation but made using the genteel 18th-century art of cut-paper silhouettes.

This work represents a shift away from reflections on pre-Civil War American history to a response to events taking place in our time, namely Hurricane Katrina in which 1,836 people lost their lives. The work encompasses an unprecedented range of the artists techniques including her signature cut-paper silhouette, drawing and collage. Presented by the Art Fund through Art Fund International.
