The Fruitmarket Gallery brings works by some of the world’s most important contemporary artists to Scotland.
Housed on the site of a former fruit and vegetable market, the gallery opened its doors in 1974 to bring a programme of contemporary visual arts to Edinburgh city.
The venue hosts four to five exhibitions a year, featuring work by both Scottish and international artists.
The Fruitmarket Gallery café was named 'one of the best in town' by The List Eating and Drinking Guide 2010/11 thanks to a gourmet menu based on seasonal produce.
Visitors can also enjoy browsing the gallery's bookshop or, during the summer, peruse the design market where stalls offer furniture, prints, fashion and home design.
