A bold new gallery of modern and contemporary art, first opened in January 2007, mima brings together Middlesbrough's art collections and hosts temporary exhibitions of fine art and craft from 1900 to the present.
Featuring the work of internationally acclaimed artists, exhibitions are free and change throughout the year. There is a wide range of events alongside the exhibitions, including talks, tours, workshops and creative family sessions. mima is one of five UK venues awarded £1 million by the Art Fund to build their collections of international contemporary art over a five-year period.
Art Funded works
Mima was awarded £1 million to spend on international contemporary art through the Art Fund International funding scheme. Discover how works of art from across the globe came to Middlesbrough with our interactive map.
