Hitchin Museum and Art Gallery

This friendly local museum is run by North Herts District Council, and covers Hitchin and the surrounding villages.

There is a large display of social history, including costume and the Perks and Llewelyn Victorian pharmacy. The museum houses a large collection of art by FL Griggs and the Lucas family, among others. Works are shown in temporary exhibitions and many have been scanned to increase access to this wonderful resource. Research room available.

This museum has now closed while staff work towards the redevelopment of the new North Hertfordshire Museum, scheduled to open in Hitchin Town Hall in 2014. For details of 'Behind the Scenes' tours, please e-mail hitchin.museum@north-herts.gov.uk, or call 01462 434476
