From acclaimed architects to Turner prize-winning artists, it exhibits innovators of the 20th and 21st centuries: key figures who have shaped development and stimulated change. Visitors can also enjoy the free exhibition space, The Curve, which is home to a vibrant programme of new commissions created by leading contemporary artists in direct response to the gallery space.

The gallery's shop stocks a wide range of books and merchandise, including posters, postcards and magazines, and the Barbican is host to a number of restaurants and bars for visitors to enjoy. Access to the gallery is provided by a ramped main entrance and lifts which service every floor of the Barbican building.
