Tate presents the full range of Lichtenstein's work, from the oversize comic strips to paintings of Greek sculpture and his series of female nudes.

It will be the most comprehensive survey for over two decades. Some of the greatest hits come from Tate's own collection, including the two-panel Whaam! (1963), portraying a cartoon dogfight based on an image from a DC war comic.
Illustrating the artist's wider practice will be landscapes in a Chinese style; paintings of works from art history, including a striking interpretation of the Greek sculpture Laocoön and his Sons; and a giant black-and-white painting of a school exercise book with a marble cover entitled Compositions (1964).
