This summer Manchester is celebrating multi-culturalism with a season of contemporary art and music from West Africa.

Manchester Art Gallery has commissioned large-scale installation from Barthélemy Toguo, and there'll be another by Pascale Marthine Taou at the Whitworth. The Gallery of Costume will show work by three Malian photographers, Malick Sidibé, Abderramane Sakaly and Soungalo Malé. Their extraordinary studio and social portraits will be displayed alongside West African dress from the gallery's collection and contemporary fashion by West African designers.
