Durham's world famous Oriental Museum has received one of just five projects grants awarded under the Art Fund's RENEW scheme, funded by a grant from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and designed to support fresh areas of collecting.
The £50,000 grant will be used to develop a new collection, entitled Made in Japan. We will be given a private tour of the exhibition and museum and have a chance to see any newly acquired items in the collection.
We will also be able to view the newly opened Chinese gallery with displays selected during a residency by the Chinese art-historian Xiaxin Li.
