Swindon's remarkable art collection now has the reputation as one of the best of British 20th-century art outside London. It includes works by Lucian Freud, Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson and Richard Hamilton. The museum's diverse and varied collection tells the story of Swindon from prehistoric times through to the present day. It focuses on geology, archaeology and social history with a significant section devoted to the Roman history of Swindon.
