This self portrait depicts Taylor-Johnson suspended in mid air against the backdrop of her studio, in what she described as a moment of absolute release and freedom.

She confronts the audience with her body, both beautiful and visibly scarred. The artist suspended herself using ropes with the help of a bondage expert, later digitally removing these in the photograph to create the impossible scene. The photograph is from a series of eight, each showing the artist hanging in a different position.

Provenance

The artist; White Cube, London.
