Francis Goodwin (1784-1835) was one of the most successful and prolific designers of early 19th century churches.

He was particularly skilful at designing Gothic Revival works but also designed classical buildings in the manner of Sir John Soane. Goodwin wanted to enter the competition to redesign the new House of Commons after the fire of 1834 but overwork on this project led to his untimely death in 1835.
