An enthusiastic supporter of the nationwide campaign to save the Staffordshire Hoard for the West Midlands has set up a petition on the Number 10 website, the official site of the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Petition reads: “We, the undersigned, petition the Government to ensure that if public fundraising fails to achieve the target within the deadline, that Government funds the shortfall. It is essential that the hoard remains intact within the UK, preferably at museums local to the hoard’s discovery…The hoard represents the single biggest discovery of Anglo Saxon artefacts, and thus represents an invaluable national treasure and testimony to our Anglo Saxon heritage.”
The Art Fund is encouraging members of the public to sign the petition in support of the campaign and to help raise the target sum of £3.3 million to save the Hoard for the West Midlands.
This e-petition has now closed.
