QUEEN AND COUNTRY - A Project by Steve McQueen

Following its unveiling at the Manchester International Festival last year, Queen and Country has been on display at London’s Imperial War Museum. Now, The Art Fund has undertaken to tour the work and in the coming months it will travel to museums, galleries and art centres across the UK.

In addition to experiencing this powerful piece of art, visitors are invited to take part in the fulfilment of Steve McQueen’s vision by adding their name to The Art Fund's online petition. The ultimate goal of the project is to persuade Royal Mail to issue real stamps in commemoration of individual service personnel who have died in the current conflict in Iraq.

Admission is free at all venues.

    Wolverhampton Art Gallery
    Lichfield Street, Wolverhampton, WV1 1DU

Wolverhampton Art Gallery has an impressive collection of modern and contemporary art which deals with the theme of war and conflict and its effects on society. As part of its temporary exhibition programme, the gallery often returns to the question of what artists can add to our understanding of this theme. Against this backdrop and as the British troops continue to return from Iraq over the summer, Queen and Country will go on display at Wolverhampton Art Gallery.

With its family friendly displays, Wolverhampton Art Gallery welcomes visitors to explore 300 years of art; from delightful Georgian paintings and Pop Art to thought provoking contemporary pieces in the Northern Ireland Gallery and through its Arts Council programme.

    Barbican Centre, London

Queen and Country was on display at the Barbican Centre to coincide with the run of Black Watch the National Theatre of Scotland's award winning play based on interviews with former soldiers who served in Iraq.

We were proud to bring Queen and Country to the Barbican to run alongside The National Theatre of Scotland's award winning production Black Watch. These highly evocative creative responses to the Iraq war conflict illustrate powerfully the immense personal cost to those involved. We are pleased that we could offer audiences the opportunity to see this poignant exhibition and magnificent performance together.
