2.7 million needed to save the Nostell Brueghel

We successfully worked with the National Trust to raise £2.7 million to save Pieter Brueghel the Younger's The Procession to Calvary for Nostell Priory in Yorkshire. www.artfund.org/procession

At the end of 2010 we successfully joined forces with the National Trust in its quest to save Pieter Brueghel the Younger’s The Procession to Calvary, painted in 1602 by the Flemish master. It has hung as part of the collection at Nostell Priory, near Wakefield, for over 200 years, but is now owned by the Trust for the first time.

We gave £500,000 to kick-start the campaign, over £680,000 was donated from members of the public - many of whom were Art Fund and National Trust members, nearly £510,000 was given from trusts and foundations and the National Heritage Memorial Fund brought the appeal to a close with a grant of £1,034,000.
