Opening day at the National Museum of Scotland Opening day at the National Museum of Scotland The National Museum of Scotland has recently opened 16 new galleries and added over 8, 000 unseen objects to their public display to the sound of rapturous applause. But how much do we really know about the powerhouse of Scottish museums? We found out about its pets, museum crush and most famous visitor...

Age... 157 (just had a £47.4 million facelift… so looking young for my age)

Describe yourself in three words… fun, well-informed, and world-class

Most treasured possession? I’m spoilt for choice, The Lewis Chessmen, Dolly the Sheep or Sir Alexander Fleming’s Nobel Prize medal for discovering Penicillin

Most famous visitor is… My personal favourite was Joanna Lumley

Best shop success? The fabulous new Silhouette Stationery range featuring objects from the collection

Any museum pets? Our Tyrannosaurus rex

One thing that could make you better is... the redevelopment of our final 11 galleries (due for completion by 2020)

You have a Museum crush on... the Scottish National Portrait Gallery due to reopen this November – can’t wait to see it

What do you most dislike about your appearance? I run almost the length of Chambers Street and it’s very difficult to get all of me in a photograph

You’re most happy when… I see curious looks and delighted smiles on the faces of my visitors
