Art Funded William McTaggart works on show in Kirkcaldy

26 July 2010

The exhibition contains 12 paintings which were bought with assistance from membership charity the Art Fund in 1964. They were acquired when over 100 paintings amassed by a local collector were put up for sale by his family.

This major exhibition, curated by freelance curator, Susanna Hastilow, takes a new line in exploring his work by focusing on the children in his paintings. McTaggart had a close relationship with his own 15 children and often used them as models. For McTaggart’s Children Fife Council has borrowed from public and private lenders, 28 paintings, brought together for the first time, to hang alongside 20 paintings from Kirkcaldy’s collection. The show contains pictures borrowed from galleries in London, including the Tate, as well as from galleries in Aberdeen, Bradford, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Greenock. Members of the McTaggart family have also lent some paintings along with other private collectors and The Royal Bank of Scotland Group.
