Harrogate’s fine art collection consists of some 2,000 works of art, mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries, including examples by William Powell Frith, John Atkinson Grimshaw, Sir Edward Burne-Jones, Dame Laura Knight and Alan Davie, and the gallery boasts a diverse exhibition programme featuring painting, photography, sculpture and crafts. To mark its 20th anniversary this year, the Mercer has undergone a programme of redecoration and refurbishment, and is mounting a series of exhibitions to celebrate the variety of its collection.
