The Hunterian Art Gallery will undergo major refurbishment in 2012. All gallery spaces will be closed to the public from 9 January 2012, reopening in September 2012 with a major exhibition dedicated to Rembrandt. The Mackintosh House will remain open for the majority of this refurbishment.
The permanent collection includes masterpieces by Rembrandt, Rubens, Chardin and Stubbs, as well as the world’s largest permanent display of the work of James McNeill Whistler and major examples of Scottish art including the Scottish Colourists and Glasgow Boys. The Gallery also features a major collection of works on paper, the largest single holding of the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and The Mackintosh House, the reassembled interiors from his Glasgow home.
