Tate Britain is the national gallery of British art; the gallery displays the Tate Collection of British art that dates from 1500 to the present day. Highlights of the collection include portraiture from the age of Elizabeth I, the work of William Hogarth, Gainsborough and Reynolds, George Stubbs, and artists of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
Representatives of 20th-century art include Stanley Spencer, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Francis Bacon and the Young British Artists of the 1990s. The very latest contemporary art is presented through the Art Now programme and the annual Turner Prize exhibition.
