Part of the University of Manchester, Whitworth Art Gallery is one of the UK's most significant university galleries. Its collections include British watercolours, modern and historic prints, drawings, paintings and sculptures. Its collection of textiles and wallpapers is second only to those in London, and the Gallery opened a dedicated space for wallpapers in 2006.

With temporary exhibitions three times a year, the Whitworth has been described by the BBC as 'one of the North's great galleries'. Its cafe won two awards at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards in 2006, including Best Café.
