Designated a collection of national importance, the Whipple Museum houses scientific instruments, apparatus, models, paintings, prints, photographs, books and other material relating to the history of science. Particularly strong in material from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, especially objects produced by English instrument makers. Instruments used in astronomy, navigation, surveying, drawing and calculating are well represented, as are sundials, mathematical instruments and early electrical apparatus.
