West Berkshire Museum occupies two listed buildings, the early 17th-century Cloth Hall faces the medieval Market Place and the 18th-century Granary overlooks the Wharf; the two buildings are linked. The collections range from archaeology to zoology, although there is a growing emphasis on local history, especially topography.

The Fine Art Collection numbers some 750 prints, drawings, watercolours and oils, most of which date from the 19th- and 20th-centuries. Of special local interest are the works of Victor Corden (1860-1939) and Marjorie Heather (1904-1989). Photographs, maps, archives, ephemera and reference material complement the Fine Art Collection.
