Located in 12th-century Taunton Castle, the Somerset County Museum holds collections of archaeology, geology, biology, costume and textiles, and other applied crafts. The Low Ham Roman Pavement, the earliest example of large-scale narrative art ever discovered in Britain, is a highlight, together with 400 million-year-old fossils. There is a small Art Gallery including works by Ernst Blensdorf and John Piper.
