Containing the archives of Bethlem Hospital (founded 1247) and Maudsley Hospital, the museum also holds a collection of paintings and drawings by artists with mental health problems. Other items of historic significance, such as the statues of 'Raving and Melancholy Madness' from the 17th-century gates, are included in the collections.
