The Pitt Rivers Museum houses dense displays, organised by type or function, for example: baskets or masks. There is a programme of special exhibitions drawing on reserve collections. The Upper Gallery, containing arms and armour, is closed until 2009 for re-display work. Due to further development, the entire museum will be closed for some months during 2008.
