An excellent of 15th- to 18th-century Italian art, including work by Bellucci and Carriera. Highlights of the British art collections include works by the Pre-Raphaelites, Sickert, John Nash, Hockney and Sutherland. A special feature is the bequest of composer William Alwyn, which includes work by Tissot, Conder, Rodin and Gauguin.

The museum also boasts one of the finest collections of British and Oriental ceramics in the country, a large proportion of which is on permanent display. Northampton is also home of the world’s largest collection of shoes and related material, some of which is featured in two galleries, ‘Life & Sole' and ‘Followers of Fashion’.
