As one of the world’s premier institutions for naming, describing and classifying all life on Earth, the museum has been gathering knowledge about the natural world for over 250 years. Its vast collection, of over 70 million plants, animals, fossils, rocks and minerals, is used by more than 300 scientists in research into problems such as disease, climate change and threats to the Earth’s biodiversity.

Animal, vegetable or mineral, some of Earth’s most amazing treasures are on display in the many galleries, revealing how the jigsaw of life fits together. Complementing the permanent collection is a diverse programme of exhibitions and displays, plus events, workshops, talks and behind-the-scenes tours.
