The National Gallery of Scotland houses the national collection of fine art from the early Renaissance to the end of the 19th century. Spend an hour strolling around it and you'll find masterpieces in a peaceful, welcome setting; from Raphael, Titian, El Greco, Velazquez, Rembrandt and Rubens, to Van Gogh, Monet, Cezanne, Degas and Gaugin.

The most comprehensive part of the collection covers the history of Scottish painting. All the major names, including Ramsay, Raeburn, Wilkie and McTaggart are represented in depth; a highlight is Raeburn's much-loved 'Skating Minister'. The National Galleries of Scotland complex includes the Royal Scottish Academy Building, one of Europe's premier exhibition venues, and The Weston Link, which lies beneath the two buildings, for shopping, eating, drinking and learning.
