Located in a fine Victorian house with original features, the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon illustrates the history of the town and landscape from its geological past to the present day. Temporary exhibitions include art, craft and local history subjects.

Highlights of the museum include a display on the manufacture of Barnstaple pottery, which includes a reconstructed 17th-century kiln and North Devon pottery, with works by CH Brannam. The Royal Devon Yeomanry collection includes original Regimental Guidons, First World War diaries and oral histories from the Second World War. Also displayed are key items from local manufacturers Shapland and Petter, makers of Arts and Crafts furniture. The museum also holds some significant pieces of pewter.
