The Ashmolean, Britain’s first museum, houses Oxford University’s diverse collection of art and artefacts, from Ancient Egypt to 20th-century Europe. The collections include paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, coins and Eastern arts.

A major development scheme will completely transform the museum to create more display space, a dedicated education centre and state of the art conservation studios. The Greek and Roman Collections that are currently split between two separate sites will be integrated, and a series of new teaching rooms and study centres will be provided. The new development will open in 2009.
