Currently closed for refurbishment The superb collection of Italian bronzes, maiolica, porcelain, glass and furniture formed by Sir William Holburne in the 19th century has since been enriched with paintings, many by British artists who worked in Bath during its Georgian heyday. The collection boasts portraits by Gainsborough, Ramsay, Kauffmann and Stubbs; landscapes by Turner and Guardi; and Nathaniel Hone's miniature of Beau Nash, Bath's famous Master of Ceremonies. The collection of decorative art objects includes an exquisite Dutch marquetry cabinet, said to have belonged to John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough; an impressive Jacobean bell-shaped silver Salt; and an embroidered panel, dating to about 1665, depicting the restoration of Charles II.
